Whether it is dysfunctional personality, marriage, leadership, institutions, etc. parenting will constitute so much of its turnout. It will not suffice if humanity dwells on their individual and private happiness without considering the society. Say a man and woman desired and decided to pool in their lot together in a bond of matrimony without also planning what to do in event of coming children. Yes, it is every citizen’s right to marry and seek their happiness with whomsoever, whenever and wherever. However, every right that man enjoys is never free, for such rights are ratified when the individuals takes responsibility. Parenting is tough! It is not like choosing a spouse. Somehow, you had a preconception of what would attract you.

You knew your spouse before you became husband and wife. Both of you had opportunity to size and bargain with yourselves. But children come to this world without any previous acquaintanceship or negotiation; either with their parents or society. Parenting is same as husbandry or crop farming where the farmer takes all the loads of cultivation, preservation and profits. Any couple with worthy children is praise to themselves and the community. For this very reason, every parent must imbibe the art of parenting, embracing in practice methods that will ensure perpetuation of the right kind of citizens. I see many people, men and women today battered, bruised and ripped of their masculinity and femininity. These adults now suffer what actually were not their makings. They are big wrecks in career, business, relationships, socially poor, insecure and always seeking affirmations, oftentimes victims. Some that attempts the line of emancipation, mostly turnout villains as they go crude and extreme. Therefore, good parenting is producing prototype of generations to come. It serves the good of the parents, the child, community and institutions. But the higher takers ultimately are the parents and the child. As there are violent, selfish, low esteem, greedy, hateful, lazy, etc. people on one hand, on the other hand there are compassionate, God-fearing, confident, enterprising, straight dealing, etc. people. All these are results of deposit in early foundation from bad or good parenting. Birth is the consequence of insemination and child molding will be a deliberate inculcation of virtue by parents/guardians. It is my earnest prayer that parents should learn the art of parenting and be willing and eager to ply such on their children. Caregivers should complement efforts at raising a total child. Society will be worth living!
